Thurston

Tony and Jill's dog Thurston passed away just after Memorial Day. Losing a family pet is hard as you are losing a family member who was part of your life! We will miss Thurston, but we know he is in great place!

Work

The last two weeks I have been working for APS Healthcare as their executive assistant. The job is a temp-to-hire, but I am not sure if the job is a true fit for me. I am helping them out for the time being and maybe I will see an opportunity that challenges me and uses my skills I have obtained from my previous jobs. Everyone is super nice there and they go by the motto of "WORK HARD PLAY HARD" which is always nice to go by! I am also seeing if they would be interested in someone for part-time as I would love love love to establish myself with a part-time role. We will see....as everything happens for a reason!

Since I have been working I havn't had time to update our blog as much. We have been busy on the weekends trying to finsih our house projects. I must say they are coming along great and soon we will be finished! Pictures will soon follow once we are done!

Bella

Bella is getting so big lately, but she is still a little cuttie! We have finished all her shots and the vet says she is healthy! =) We plan on getting her spayed in July sometime, hopefully that will be a quick recovery!

Lately she has enjoyed her "play dates" with her boy friend Zeus (Tory and Darrin's pup!) Tory and Darrin will be moving next door the beggining of July so I am sure our "play dates" will be more frequent. We will post pictures of them together soon.

Memorial Day

We headed to Pueblo over Memorial Day Weekend. We left earlier that week for My Dad's retirement party! After 34 years, my dad officially retired! He had a great turnout for his party which was held no other but his workshop classroom! Many of his former students were there and spoke great words about my dad! We were so proud of him and we know he will be missed. We hope he enjoys his retirement as it is well deserved!

Over the actual Memorial Day weekend, Joseph played in a golf tournament known as the Two Man tournament. This year he played with friend who he hasn't seen for over 7 years - His friend Travis! Travis and his wife Mari live in Phoenix, AZ and they drove to Colorado for the game. It was great meeting Travis and Mari! Travis and Joseph played well and came in 4th overall! Not bad for two indivudals not playing with eachother for the past 7 years and both being from out-ot-state! While the boys played golf Mari, my mom, and I enjoyed some Pueblo, Colorado sites and downtown shopping/browsing at the river walk. How nice the river walk is! I hope businesses succeed in the area as they are unique and nice to to visit!

My brother Nathan and my sister-in-law Jackie got a new puppy over this weekend! They originally planned to get Jackie's dad Jack one, but when picking one out for Jack they fell in love and got Rocky! Bella loved her new cousin as he was the perfect size to play with....but next time she sees him she will be surprised on how big he is!

We also were able to enjoy a great BBQ over at Joseph's mom and Tony's house. They had the back area looking really nice and had really great food. We were also able to celebrate Morgan and Isa's birthdays! It was nice to have a big gathering and see everyone! We haven't seen Jason, Melanie, Morgan, Isa, or Francesca since Christmas so it was great to see them! It was even a pleasant surprise to see Francesca's boyfriend Zach as he lives in California!

Easter

Our first Easter together as a married couple was fun filled! We didn't go back to Colorado as it would have been a very short trip, instead we started some of our own traditions as a family.

Easter Family Photo:

THE WEEK BEFORE EASTER WEEKEND:
We dyed Easter Eggs! Bella helped watch us as we turned plain white eggs into colorful creations! We wrote I Love Mommy, I Love Daddy, 9-6-2008, Joseph + Katie, Bella, etc. on the eggs. We had fun family time working on our arts and crafts!

EASTER:
On Easter we did do an Easter Egg hunt, but not with the eggs we dyed. Instead, we put some treats into two plastic eggs and had Bella hunt for them! She did pretty good, although Daddy had to help her find one of them! We went to church and then had brunch at this lovely place with Aunt Susie and Uncle Jack. We then spent the day relaxing over at their house. We are so grateful we have family here to spend the holidays with!

Our New Addition to Our Family....

BELLA!!!!

We added Bella Okerlund to our family on March 29th. Bella is a Shorkie (a mix between a Shiatsu and Yorkshire Terrier). She was born 2/1/09 and currently weighs about 2 pounds. She should only get to be about 5 pounds if she follows her parents weight. We brought her home and gave her a bath. She loves her new familyl and is already spoiled by Mom and Dad!

House Projects

Joseph has been working hard on getting our master bathroom finished - and we are about there! Here are some pictures on his hard work and the progress he has done! The bathroom is going to look great when he is done! I am so lucky to have a handy man!

St. Patty's Day!!

St. Patty's Day was on a Tuesday and so there wasn't much activity but staying home. I did make corn beef and cabbage and was excited for our first St. Patty's Day Together!! When I got home from after working I asked why the Green Food Dye was out - Now, Did I really have to ask that? GREEN DRINKS!

Update on Grandpa / Easter Decorations

We were hoping to share our Easter decorations with Momma and Pappa Mutz, but their visit was cancelled due to my Grandpa's heart. It was best for them to be there in Colorado. I about boarded a plane but decided to wait until we found out further information. As of present the infection is being treated and has slowly gone away. One of his surgeries is scheduled tomorrow morning and that is to take out the pacemaker. Once the infections is totally gone they will schedule more surgeries to 1) Get the wires out and 2) to put in a new pacemaker. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers throughout this time.

Following are a few of our Easter Decorations:

Prayers for my Grandpa Williams

We have just found out that my Grandpa has an infection in his pacemaker. He was sent to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs where he will have some surgery done to remove the old pacemaker and put in a new one on the other side of the body (away from his heart). Before the surgery can take place, the infection needs to be gone/under control. There is only one doctor in Colorado that will even do this type of surgery as it is risky. My Grandpa is great man who has worked hard his whole life. He has a big family with lots of love for everyone. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he undergoes this procedure.

With Deepest Sympathy

Yesterday, I was saddened with the news my Best Friend Lindsay told me - Her Grandma Dosen passed away. What a shock - never expected. It is always hard to lose someone close to you. Grandma Dosen is a very good friend of the family and was almost like a Grandma to me. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Dosen and Riggio family and hope they can find a closure in their loss. I know that Grandma Dosen's memory will still live on and her spirit will live in everyone's hearts. She is now in Heaven, a great place, and someday we will join her.

The Weather outside is Frightful....

In Colorado everyone says if you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes and it will change. Well the same saying goes for Oklahoma and I enjoy it as it reminds me of Colorado! I never realized how drastically the weather can change here! Yesterday it snowed! Now, I could believe Colorado getting a March snow storm, but Oklahoma?

6-Months Ago Today

I married my best friend!!! The one I Live for, Laugh with, and Love! Its crazy how quick time has flown!

March - Temp Work

Towards the middle of February I went to some temp agencies. I figured I should temp for a while and get a feel for exactly what I want. I also put myself in a situation to meet people and start networking. You never know who may know someone looking for someone to fill a position. In addition, I can also get a feel for all the different companies and their culture. I am excited for this adventure and all the wonderful things it can bring.

I started my first temp job the last week of February with Patterson Dental Supply (www.pattersondental.com) and will continue to be their branch administrator for a the next few weeks until their employee recovers from her surgery. Everyone at Patterson is so nice and has really welcomed me. They throw many events throughout the month and it is very interesting to see this side of the dental industry.

February

February was a quick month for us Okerlunds! February is the month of LOVE and our house was decorated with some valentines decor! As for all holidays, I like to have a holiday stick in the outside pot to greet guests as they come to our door. I couldn't find any garden stick, so I purchased all the art supplies to make our own!Joseph and I had a craft project hour and built our Valentine sticks!

We also celebrated my birthday on Friday February the 13th! It is a rarity for it to land on the actual day I was born! The weekend was filled with restaurants, shopping, and chick flicks! Joseph did all the laundry and I was able to relax! I am so lucky to have a such a great man in my life!

Also during this month I really started to look for a job. I was given a job offer but I turned it down as it truly was not what I wanted, the hours were long, and the benefits were not great. We are fortunate enough that I do not have to work and so I do not have to take a job unless its something I can see myself at for years to come!

January 2009

What a month we started this year out with:

Joseph and I didn't make it to midnight to ring in the 2009. Around 11:30pm we headed to bed! We were tired from staying up realy late when we were in Colorado...PLUS we are early to bed people!

January didn't have much in store for us so we pretty much worked on the house and did other house crafts (i.e. encasing the shower, putting away christmas stuff, doing valentine decorating crafts, etc.). We also went to tour some houses around Oklahoma just for fun! We like looking to see what's out there and obtain ideas! We also were able to enjoy two Oklahoma Thunder Games! One game was just us and the other game we were able to enjoy with our friends Trevor and Kelly!

As for our extended family this month was a little rough. My mom's side of the family has had many trips to the emergency room. We are glad to know that two of the three trips ended up being minor. The other trip was my Grandma William's who found out she had a small heart attack. She is resting and doing well now. Please keep her and everyone in your prayers.

The Holiday's

It seems as only yesterday we were in Colorado celebrating Christmas! Our time back in our hometown was busy and fun! Here is a recap of our events:

December 23rd:
-Road trip to Colorado. Joseph drove most of the way as I was not feeling so great! We did hit some snow and had a small detour, but we made it to Colorado Safe and Sound!

December 24th:
-Christmas Eve is always a fun filled day. Joseph and I went to the grocery store to pick up items for Christmas dinner with his side of the family. We also attended the annual Anzlovar Christmas Eve gathering. The Anzlovar house is always decorated so pretty during this time of the year. It reminds us of the Broadmoor Hotel. We then went to Christmas Eve Mass at St. Mary's Parish. It was fun to go back to the church in which we were married in! We were pointing out things that reminded us of our Special Day! The evening concluded at the Mutz household where we were able to enjoy both of our parents company and reminiscing about the past year.

December 25th:
-Christmas Day was filled with more family gatherings! We opened up gifts with my side of the family in the early morning and then we went over to Joseph's parent's house to open up gifts with them. This year we handed out framed family pictures from the wedding to everyone. Our nieces were the only ones that received an actual present, and they were excited and grateful! After all the fun of watching the little girls open up all their presents, Joseph made breakfast for everyone. We then rushed to get ready so we can attend my Mom's side of the family Christmas dinner. My Aunt Ruth Skull hosted it this year, and it was great that everyone was able to attend! Joseph and I were the first to leave as we had to head to his parents house so we could fix Christmas Dinner over there. We enjoyed a lovely dinner and it was great that everyone was able to attend! It is hard to get everyone together when there are so many families to coordinate around and everyone is coming from a different part of the United States. We drew names for next years Christmas gifts and then played games the rest of the evening. It was a nonstop day, but we were able to fit everything in!

December 26th:
-The day after Christmas we pretty much lounged around the house. Since my brother and his wife were staying at my parents house too, it was fun to play Wii in our relaxing clothes and just enjoy each other. Joseph, my brother, and our friend Marc went to the Sunset for a Slopper and my mom and I went to Kohl's and ran a few other errands around town. When we got back to the house my sister-in-law was getting things ready for a Fondue party. Nathan and Jackie really wanted to do this for Joseph as he has not been able to attend any in the past, and it is a great family tradition in which they have passed on to us! Before we enjoyed the fondue we drove out to Pueblo West to tour the gorgeous house Nathan and Jackie just purchased. They were closing on the house on December 30th and we were dying to see it!

December 27th:

-We spent the day in our relaxing clothes at Joseph's parents house. Joseph's brother Jason, wife Melanie, and their girls Morgan and Ysa were staying there over the holiday's. It was fun to play Wii with them and just enjoy the company. Melanie, the girls, and I went to some stores in the afternoon and enjoyed some IHOP! That evening we went to the Mutz side gift exchange at My Aunt Madz's house. It was fun as usual, and we ended up leaving with some great gifts! Joseph left with a gift set of Crown and I ended up with a fireproof safe! We then went back to Joseph's parents house and ended up playing Wii till wii hours of the night! It was fun filled night to have the whole family there again.

December 28th:
-Road trip back to Oklahoma! Weather was in our favor on this day! As usual our car was packed to the tee as were still bringing random items from Pueblo to our house.

December 31st:
-Our first New Years as a married couple was Great! Joseph had to work in the day, but had the next day off so we lived up the night! We dressed up and went to a very wonderful dinner at Boulevard Steak House! It was one of the best steaks I have had in awhile. After dinner we came home and watched the New Year Eve events on TV and went to bed a half hour before midnight! We were so tired!

We hope all our friends and family had a wonderful Holiday Season filled with memories to last a lifetime!
